Why Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum?

Immersive, Multi-Disciplinary, Fact-Based, SOL-Based, Place-Based Field Trips

Our field trips meets a variety of Standards of Learning

Single Class Information*

  • One hour instructor-led programs
  • $5/student 
  • First 2 adults (teachers/TAs) are free
  • $5/additional chaperones and adults
  • 10 child, or $50, minimum
  • *Fewer than 30 students

Extra Museum Time

  • Groups of 20 children or fewer can enjoy an extra 30 minutes of museum discovery time to explore all of our interactive exhibits for a $35 flat fee.  
  • If your group is larger than 20, and you wish to have the extra museum time, you must split the group and pay per each group up to 20 students.
  • Only 1 group may be in the museum at a time. The remaining group(s) may enjoy the Sensory Garden or the park outside of the museum for that 30 minutes. 
  • Must be booked in advance. 

Outreach Programs

  • Our instructor will visit your site for select programs (Native Americans, Grandma's Kitchen, Pumpkin Parade, Apples All Around)
  • $125/classroom

NEW! Travel Trunks (Grades K-8)

  • Our NEW Loudoun's First Farmers (Native American) travel trunk brings exciting activities and hands-on items to your school.
  • Lessons for Grades K-8, activities, and reproduction items are included (reproduction projectile points, rocks and gems, and real furs).
  • $75 per week

Single Class PROGRAMS

Pre-K - Grade 2

  • Weights and Measures:  Learn about volume and weight, and enjoy a potato sack race or relay race.​  🔷⚙️ 

Pre-K - Grade 5

  • Grandma's Kitchen: Explore life in a pre-electrification rural kitchen. What has changed? 🔷🌿⚙️
  • Historic Games, Toys, and Chores:  Discover the chores done around the farm and play some toys and games that have been popular for generations. 🔷⚙️🟧 
  • One Room Schoolhouse: What was school life like for students in Virginia in the 19th and 20th century? 🔷⚙️ 🟧 

Pre-K - Grade 6

  • All Around the Farm: Enjoy structured time in our interactive exhibits to learn about agriculture and rural life in Loudoun County at the turn of the 20th century.  🔷🌿⚙️ 🟧 

Grades K-6

  • Hammers & Horseshoes: Visit both our working Blacksmith Forge and Workhorse Collection. Learn about why blacksmithing was important to life on a farm and horse powered farm equipment ($100 minimum or 20 paid attendees).  🔷🌿⚙️🟧

Grades K-8

  • Loudoun's First Farmers - Native Americans: Learn about Native American history as well as the recognized tribes of modern Virginia. Discover how they used natural resources and what made these people Loudoun's First Farmers.   🔷🌿⚙️ 

Grades 1-3

  • Time for Change: Travel back to 1909 in the Waxpool General Store and discover that a dollar used to go a long way.  🔷⚙️
  • Simple Machines: Discover the simple machines that have made daily chores easier for farmers. 🔷⚙️

Grades 4-8

  • Hands on History: Tour the museum's permanent exhibits and learn the fundamentals of archaeology, history, and museum practice.  🔷⚙️🟧

Seasonal Programs

  • Bees and Other Pollinators (Spring): Learn about how pollinators help plants grow. 🌿
  • Plant It! (Spring): Be a scientist for the day and observe, explore, and experiment with plants through hands-on activities. 🌿⚙️
  • Apples All Around (Fall): Learn about apples and use a historic press to make cider! 🔷🌿⚙️🟧
  • Pumpkin Parade (Fall): Learn about all the different varieties of pumpkins and the history of this fall favorite.  🔷🌿⚙️🟧

Stations Program: Bring the whole crew (2 or more classes)
